This Week’s Audio Book Selection: The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, Book 1)

One of my selections from Audible.com this month is a re-listen of one of my favorites, the first Gunslinger novel.  I had this book on CD several years ago but I managed to misplace it after our move.  I decided to use one of my Audible selections to pick it up in digital format this month.

It’s likely that I’ll do the same with the remainder of the books as well.

Listening to the book brings a new perspective to it for me.  The narrator gives each character their own voice, which is something richer than what I gave them when I read the novel originally.  It makes me grin to see how I interpreted a character vs. how the narrator interprets them.

I’m really enjoying revisiting the earliest incarnation of Roland Deschain.  Having now read the entire series it’s enjoyable to go back and pick up on minor plot points that eventually become much greater later on in the series.

Even though I’ve read the novel and listened to the audio version more than once I still pick up on nuances that I’ve missed until now.

If I ever end up with a shorter commute I’ll have to find another way to get in all my audio book listening that I’ve become accustomed to.

Question: What audio books do you listen to over and over again?
